Hoja
Unclaimed urban gaps rarely stay neutral and neglected spaces tend to fill with the wrong kinds of energy. But what if design could flip that pattern and turn those alleys into safe spaces for children and community?
project overview
Hoja is a shadow module that reclaims solitary alleys in Mexico City as safe, playful spaces for children. Its leaf inspired geometry and butterfly roof shell scatter shadows across the ground, drawing kids into moments of curiosity and imagination. Built locally and co-created with residents, its carbon steel base and detachable traditionally woven top allow for easy assembly, repair, and maintenance.
